If you were to make compost using those grounds, adding the compost would be good.EALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03339266900036592543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-58852060183003313772011-08-28T12:00:32.363-07:002011-08-28T12:00:32.363-07:00Curious: I've been trying to strengthen my ros...Curious: I've been trying to strengthen my roses. I am researching the use of coffee grinds. While I hear that the grinds, generally, are good for the plant, it seems no one wants to commit to the ways in which the rosebush might benefit from them. Have you used spent coffee grounds with any of your flowers? Results? Thanks, ahead, for the advice.revel gardenerhttp://revelgardener.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-6047104051505165332011-07-28T10:42:42.398-07:002011-07-28T10:42:42.398-07:00Yes, we love roses with reckless abandon, for thei...Yes, we love roses with reckless abandon, for their scent as well as their beauty, completely disregarding the extra care they require. Try sprinkling cornmeal around the beds two or three times a year and water in well - no more fungus!
Cheryl, FlowersFeathers.blogspot.comcherylhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17346690513444643806noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-57422986062989423522011-07-08T20:33:03.073-07:002011-07-08T20:33:03.073-07:00Yes, only grow roses for the scent and beauty of t...Yes, only grow roses for the scent and beauty of the blooms!
The best smelling rose to me is 'Celsiana' a Damask rose with a deep satisfying fragrance. The shrub is large-5ft x 5ft but it covers itself with medium sized flowers beautifully distributed on the bush. Another beauty is 'Celestial', an Alba rose, soft pink blossoms, beautiful in bud; even the foliage is beautiful, clean, nothing bothers it, gray-green.
Graham Thomas, the english garden wrote a great book on Shrub Roses, worth search for it to learn about what we call Antique Roses.
Love the photo of your Abraham Darby.chris m.https://www.blogger.com/profile/16954303602767492218noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-11304717392195801502011-07-08T10:19:40.406-07:002011-07-08T10:19:40.406-07:00I'm no rose expert, but I'd keep building ...I'm no rose expert, but I'd keep building up the soil with compost, and deadheading. The branches grow stronger over time. At least I have found this to be the case. But don't prune too late in the season.EALhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03339266900036592543noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-35364542593000699642011-07-07T18:18:49.588-07:002011-07-07T18:18:49.588-07:00I planted some climbing roses last fall. The stems bend and break off because they can't support the weight of the blooms.
I'm a newby gardener, does this sort of thing happen off? Seems to me that it's like breeding giraffes with necks too weak to support the head. The Merryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09660495393832517684noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-12157091.post-75848223895279883512011-07-07T11:08:57.963-07:002011-07-07T11:08:57.963-07:00Ooooh so pretty! Have you heard about the Earth Kind Rose designation here in Texas?NotSoAngryRedHeadhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11483848154656500575noreply@blogger.com
