Dressing up for the holidays

Sorry, no spectacular lighting displays have been documented so far—I just haven’t had the inclination to drive around at night getting them. But while doing some errands on foot this afternoon, it did strike me what a great effect a thin dusting of new snow can have. Like above, where this fancy evergreen hybrid (I am not sure what it is) is outlined against the house. Or this frosted ironwork.

Then of course, if you insist on a little color, there’s always this (below). All for now—I’ll be getting back to my festive activities.

I usually don't like those garlands of ornament balls, but it's amazing what great architecture can do--it looks right at home on that front porch, not overblown.

I adore that frosted ironwork, though. When I win the lottery I'm going to buy some of the old ironwork that I just drool over at salvage yards now.

I love your frosted tree which looks like a blue atlas cedar aka Cedrus atlantica 'Glauca' but that is hardy to zone 6. What is your hardiness zone? I apologize but I love the colored balls around the door! Big Sparkle!

That's right--it is my neighbor's and now I remember someone remarking that they were taken in when they bought it and that it would not survive in 5. It has, though. They did lose another tall evergreen on the other side. These guys pretty much have all their gardening done for them.

Love the big balls!
