Garden Walk freakout post

Yes, this is the yearly panic attack about how unprepared my garden is for Garden Walk. Except that this time, I am SO behind that I can’t even get too excited about it.

However, we do, as always, have exhibit A, at top: plants bought at the last minute in the fond hope that they will provide some kind of color boost, negating the myriad flaws to be seen everywhere.

And then we have the unmulched, unweeded front beds. There are 4 bags of mulch in the trunk of my car. Can they exert some karmic power from there, magically making weeds disappear? My husband did trim all the flagstone growth. Trimming is much better than pulling; this way we have nice lines of green between the paving.

The wisteria is monstrous. Really, everything is. There has been so much rain. The roses haven’t liked that though, and there hasn’t been enough warmth for the colocasia to take off.

The pond plants don’t look right. I have to fix that. Please, let me remember to fix that. Please, let me remember to throw some mulch down. Please, make it stop raining, at least for the few hours early tomorrow am that it will take me to finish up.

It will be ok EAL. I know you will work like a Trojan and it will be beautiful. It looks like you have plenty of filler there. Best of luck.

Now I'm really upset. I made plans for Saturday evening. Saturday, day time, I work. Pesky work!

Best of luck - I'm sure everyone will find your garden to be exquisite.
Take a couple of mint juleps and call me in the morning, EAL.

What's a few thousand visitors? I had only 50 and I was as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.

I'm sure we'll be hearing raves about your garden for a long time.

Remember, we gardeners are always our own harshest critics. I'm sure whatever you get don't get done will matter very little to your visitors. Take a deep breath AND time to enjoy the whole crazy weekend!

I know your garden will be fabulous - and it looks as though the gods have listened to your plea for no rain. It's sunny and beautiful (at least at this very moment) in Buffalo. Hope you've finished your mulching! :)
Recognizing you have a problem is the first step to conquering it: take a deep breath and keep repeating to yourself "Everything is for the best in the best of all possible worlds." Your garden has such good bones, it looks great even if you don't think it's perfect. I hope you can relax & enjoy at Garden Walk.
Your garden looks so lovely that a few gardener-perceived flaws won't even be noticed. We all know that no garden is ever finished...what would be the fun in that?
Ooh, I can feel your pain. My yard was on a garden tour once and I said "never again!". But I'm sure you'll amaze yourself at everything you get done. Good luck!

Thanks all! I did (mostly) get the mulching done and I honestly think we've done all we can. Bring 'em on!

I'm sure your garden will be/was fine, Elizabeth. You're soooo right about the prodigious rain and corresponding prodigious growth of everything. Then there's the slugs and snails, which even *I*, who ignores them mostly, am noticing this year. Might be time to get ducks or chickens again.
Sending some karmic garden energy your way to help with the chores--or the recuperation. Strawberry daquiris are very nice for that.
